Petroleum is imported by the state-owned Marshalls Energy Company (MEC) and private companies. MEC is responsible for on-grid and off-grid electricity generation, transmission, and distribution throughout the Marshall Islands except for Ebeye.
These projects will contribute to achievement of the government’s target of 20% of electricity generation from renewable energy sources by 2020 (the World Bank estimates that with the completion of its proposed 6.8 MW PV investment, the Marshall Islands will achieve 9% electricity from renewable energy sources). 8.
